Apple iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus Overview:
Let’s look at the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus specifications in detail.
Design
The new iPhone 14 models are identical in design to last year’s iPhone 13 models. The new Apple iPhone 14 Plus features flat edges, an aerospace-grade aluminum enclosure, and a glass back.

Apple has introduced Dynamic Island replacing the notch in iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have the same notch as previous generation iPhones with Face ID. The regular iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus is available in midnight, purple, starlight, blue and red color.
Display
Unfortunately, there is no major upgrade in the displays of the new iPhone 14 and Apple iPhone 14 Plus. We are getting the same Super Retina XDR OLED Panel as the iPhone 13 without pro-motion.
The iPhone 14 features a 6.1-inch super retina XDR OLED display whereas we are getting a massive 6.7-inch super retina XDR OLED display in the new Apple iPhone 14 Plus model. The display is protected by scratch-resistant ceramic glass. Similarly, the display can reach up to 1200 nits peak brightness.
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are still missing a 120 Hz refresh rate. So, you are not getting smooth scrolling like iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro max in regular iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.
Other than that the display is excellent and it is one of the best displays for this price range. The display of the iPhone 14 is identical to last year’s iPhone 13. It has a screen resolution of 1170 x 2532 pixels and 460 ppi pixel density.
It has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display supports HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. The display is protected by the Ceramic Shield, the same as in the iPhone 13.
Considering the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus prices in Nepal, they have exceptional displays except for a 120 Hz refresh rate.
Same A15 Bionic Chip
The new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are powered by the previous-gen Apple A15 bionic chip which is present in the iPhone 13 series.
For the first time, Apple has not upgraded the processor in their new iPhone lineup. With that said, the iPhone 14 pro and iPhone 14 pro max come with a new A16 bionic processor which is a 4nm chipset.
With that said the Apple A15 bionic chip is a powerful processor. The A15 bionic is a 5 nm processor that features a 6-core CPU with two performance cores and four efficiency cores, along with a 5-core GPU.

One thing to notice is that Apple used the 4-core GPU version in iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini last year whereas the 5-core GPU version was used in iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
So, this year we are getting a 5-core GPU version in iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. It is a kind of slight improvement considering the 5-core GPU version over last year’s 4-core GPU version.
All in all, we can expect a slight improvement in graphical performance in the new iPhone 14 and 14 Plus than last year’s regular iPhone 13.
Apple has also updated the internal design to deliver better thermal efficiency. According to Cnet’s iPhone 14 review, the iPhone 14 is fast and still ahead of most Android smartphones in the market which I agree with.
Overall we can expect excellent performance from Apple iPhone 14 Plus considering the iPhone 14 plus price in Nepal. The regular iPhone 14 is no different from that.
Slight Camera Improvement With Photonic Engine
The new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature a dual rear camera system. We get a 12 MP primary camera with f/1.5 aperture and a larger 1.9µm pixels which was previously called a wide camera by Apple.
- 12 MP, f/1.5, 26mm (wide), 1/1.7″, 1.9µm, dual pixel PDAF, sensor-shift OIS
- 12 MP, f/2.4, 13mm, 120˚ (ultrawide)
It is an improvement over last year’s iPhone 13 which has a 12 MP primary camera with f/1.6 aperture. Apple says the new main camera lets in 49 percent more light to capture bright and high-resolution pictures in normal day conditions and night time.
With that said the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 feature a 12 MP ultrawide camera with f/2.4 aperture which has a 120˚ Field Of View (FOV).
Apple has introduced Photonic Engine in the new iPhone 14 series to improve image processing. Apple claims that low light performance is improved by 2x on the Ultra Wide camera, 2x on the TrueDepth camera, and an impressive 2.5x on the new Main camera.
Other than that the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 can capture impressive 4K videos up to 60FPS which have been Apple’s Trademark in recent times. Furthermore, the camera of the iPhone 14 series can take some of the best photos and videos considering its price in Nepal.
New TrueDepth Front Camera With Autofocus
Well, there is no Dynamic Island on the regular iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus. We get the same notch as iPhone 13 models. With that said Apple has made some improvements in the front camera.
We get an improved 12 MP camera with f/1.9 aperture which has autofocus. The Photonic Engine and Autofocus combined with the TrueDepth camera take some great pictures and high-quality videos.
Overall the iPhone 14 camera is among some of the best in the industry and can take some of the best-looking photos and videos considering its price in Nepal.
Battery Life
The iPhone 14 is packed with a 3279 mAh battery. It is slightly larger than the 3240 mAh inside the iPhone 13. Apple sticks with 20W charging.
Apple claims it can charge the iPhone 14 Up to 50% in around 30 minutes which looks a bit outdated considering what the competitors are offering. However, you need to purchase the adaptor separately.
The iPhone 14 supports 15W MagSafe wireless charging and 7.5W Qi magnetic fast wireless charging. Overall, you can expect similar battery performance as the iPhone 13.
Crash Detection
Apple has introduced new crash detection features in new iPhone 14 models. The new iPhone 14 can detect a severe car crash, and notify your emergency contacts.
It is possible because of the high dynamic range gyroscope which monitors drastic changes in a car’s orientation and the new high g-force accelerometer that senses extreme accelerations or decelerations up to 256 Gs.
Apple says they have developed advanced motion algorithms through 1 million hours of real-world driving and crash data to make it as accurate as possible.
However, some people are facing issues with this feature as it has been mistaking roller coaster rides for car crashes in some instances.
Emergency SOS Via Satellite
Apple has also introduced a new feature which is Emergency SOS Via Satellite. These features allow the iPhone 14 to connect with a satellite for communication in emergencies.
You’ll get Emergency SOS via Satellite which lets you use a satellite to message emergency dispatchers in places where cellular and WiFi connections are not available.
Emergency SOS Via Satellite is free to use for all iPhone 14 users for two years. However, Apple has not yet provided any further details on what it will cost in the future.
Final Verdict, Pros, And Cons
The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus is not a massive improvement from last year’s iPhone 13. Apple has introduced some new important features in the iPhone 14 series like crash detection and Emergency SOS Via Satellite. Other than that most of the other features are similar except for the large screen size of the iPhone 14 Plus.
This year’s iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus have the same internals as last year’s iPhone 13 Pro other than some specs. So, it can be considered a mini improvement over last year’s iPhone 13.
