Google I/O is just around the corner, and it’s likely that the Pixel 7a will make an appearance at the event. However, could this mid-range phone mark the end of the Pixel A-series? The answer seems to be unclear.
Last December, Android Authority came with some leaks regarding Google’s Pixel roadmap indicating that Google might be rethinking its A-series strategy. According to the leak, a Pixel 8a with the codename “akita” is in the works. However, whether or not it gets released may depend on the sales of the Google Pixel 7a.
Recently, tipster Yogesh Brar stated on Twitter that the Pixel 7a could be the last of its kind. He claims that Google will move forward with only the vanilla Pixel and the Pro model.
Pixel a series seems to be coming to an end. With the spec and price bump on the Pixel 7a, it is certain that there won't be any 8a coming.

Google will likely stick with vanilla and Pro models alongside a foldable going forward. Something similar might happen with Samsung
However, some sources believe that instead of discontinuing the A-series, Google could move to a biannual release schedule or even rebrand the line. If rebranded, the A-series would effectively be gone, but the line would still offer mid-range budget phones that Pixel owners love.
While it remains uncertain what the future holds for the A-series, it is clear that Google wants to make some changes. We’ll have to wait and see what the tech giant reveals at Google I/O 2023.
