Apple has made its first public release of Rapid Security Response (RSR) updates. The update is available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users running on iOS 16.4.1 and macOS 13.3.1.
The Rapid Security Response (RSR) updates are specifically created to offer iOS and macOS users security fixes without requiring them to install a complete software update.
The updates can be downloaded through the standard Software Update mechanism in the iPhone or iPad Settings app and are quick to install. Users can download the RSR updates in a couple of minutes and then do a quick restart to complete the installation process. iOS 16.4.1 and macOS 13.3.1 users can also disable Rapid Security Response updates if they want to.
According to some sources, it is currently uncertain whether Apple plans to disclose more details regarding the particular bugs addressed by the Security Response update. The support page referred to in the update only offers general information about Rapid Security Response updates and their functionality, and as of writing this, Apple’s Security Updates page has not been updated with further information.
Similarly, it is important to note that the RSR updates will only be available on the latest versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. MacRumors reports that “Apple will be releasing the RSR updates gradually over the next 48 hours, so not all users will have access to it immediately”.
